Overview

Our 16 Days Uganda Primates, Game and Cultural Safari, will take you to Lake Mburo national park, Lake Bunyonyi for Batwa pygmies experience, Mountain Mgahinga National park for Golden Monkey tracking and Batwa Cultural trail experience, Bwindi Impenetrable forest national park for gorilla trekking, Ishasha for tree-climbing lions, Queen Elizabeth and Murchison falls national parks for game viewing and Kibale forest for chimp viewing you will end with on-foot rhino tracking before proceeding to Kampala/Entebbe to end the tour.

This tour is open to any dates throughout the year and depending on availability we will book for you your gorilla trek in either Buhoma, Nkuringo, Rushaga or Ruhija, as well this tour can be tailor to best fit in your budget and interests ranging from accommodation requirements, transport and meals throughout the tour.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1
Transfer to Lake Mburo National park with stops at the Equator crossing then proceed to the park for an afternoon game drive and boat cruise on Lake Mburo.

After breakfast, drive to Lake Mburo National Park through the small towns of Uganda. Make a stopover at the Equator line for a photograph and some informative talks and experiments. Enjoy an en-route game drive as you drive to your lodge/ fhotel for check-in and lunch. After lunch, you will have a boat on the lake in search for hippos, crocodiles and water birds among others.

Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 2
Morning walking safari experience and community walk for visiting local communities in and around Lake Mburo National park.

After breakfast, you will go for a morning walking safari, this gives you a chance to explore and experience nature on foot walking in Lake Mburo National park, this walk will give you a chance to encounter zebras, elands, the great Ankole Cattle, giraffes, elands, impalas which are only found here in Uganda, among other wildlife and plant life, on your way back you will visit local communities living within the park for cultural encounters and local life experience.

Day 3
Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for a Canoe Boat cruise and encounter the Batwa Pymies.

On this day you will drive from Lake Mburo National Park to Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale District. Lake Bunyonyi is one of the three Lava damned Lake which was formed when lava flowing from one of the volcanoes blocked a river channel and water was forced to flow back hence filling the space to create lake Bunyonyi.

Bunyonyi locally means small birds due to the abundance of small birds in this area. Lake Bunyonyi is said to be the deepest lake in Uganda and second deepest in East Africa, it as well as many traditional attachments by the local people. You will do a boat cruise as well visit the Batwa Pygmies having a chance to view the 1000 islands on the lake.

Day 4
Transfer to Mgahinga National park for Batwa cultural trail experience

After your breakfast, you will drive to Mgahinga National Park for check-in at the Lodge and Lunch then later in the afternoon you will go for Batwa cultural trail experience this walk will expose you to other attractions in the park before returning back to your hotel for overnight. The Batwa, or ‘Twa people are one of the last groups of short-statured people also known as ‘pygmy’ people, and until Mgahinga Montane forest area was gazetted as a National Park they lived a hunter-gather lifestyle in the forest. They are now some of the poorest people in the world with a high infant mortality rate and low life expectancy.

As the original dwellers of this ancient jungle, the Batwa were known as “The Keepers of the Forest.” The history of these small-statured people is long and rich. The Batwa survived by hunting small game using arrows or nets and gathering plants and fruit in the rain forest. They lived in huts constructed of leaves and branches, moving frequently in search of fresh supplies of food.

The Batwa lived in harmony with the forest and its creatures, including the mountain gorillas, for millennia. Some anthropologists estimate that pygmy tribes such as the Batwa have existed in the equatorial forests of Africa for 60,000 years or more.

Day 5
Full day Golden monkey tracking and optional activities around the park.

Mgahinga golden monkeys - Uganda Primates

After early morning breakfast, you will drive to the Park headquarters for registration and joining others for a Golden Monkeys trekking briefing about the dos and the don’ts during your Uganda Golden monkey Trekking Tour. Once this is done, you will trek through the montane forest of Mountain Mgahinga National park with your ranger guides to find the beautiful Golden Monkeys, which can take you from half an hour to three-quarters of the day.

During your trek, you will have a chance to encounter other wildlife including, various bird species and tree species which your guide which give you information about to make the trek enjoyable. This is indeed an extraordinary feeling being with these beautiful endangered Creatures. Once you find them you will spend one hour encounter with them and then return to your lodge for relaxing and overnight.

Day 6
Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park.

On this day you will go for a morning walking safari experience and then after you will drive to Bwindi Impenetrable forest National park in South Western Uganda where you will spend two nights. This journey is about 4-5 hours’ drive but very enjoyable as you will be driving through various local communities and towns along the road, the drive as well takes you through the beautiful cascading and rolling hills of Kigezi region. You will have stops in Mbarara for en-route lunch after proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable forest for overnight.

Accommodation: Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge or Trekkers Tavern Cottages.

Drive time: 2-3 hours’ drive.

Day 7
Gorilla tracking experience Day.

Uganda Primates

After early morning breakfast, you will drive to the Park headquarters for registration and joining others for a gorilla trekking briefing about the dos and the don’ts during your Uganda Gorilla Trekking Tour. Once this is done, you will trek through the tropical rain forest of Bwindi your ranger guides to find the Gorillas, which can take you from half an hour to three-quarters of the day.

During your trek, you will have a chance to encounter other wildlife including, various bird species and tree species which your guide which give you information about to make the trek enjoyable. This is indeed an extraordinary feeling being with these beautiful endangered Creatures. You will be awarded a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking and thus contributing to the conservation of mountain gorillas.

Accommodation: Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge or Trekkers Tavern Cottages.

Day 8
Transfer to Ishasha sector Queen Elizabeth national park, for an evening game drive to search for late grazers and tree climbing lions.

On this day you will drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park Ishasha section for 1 night at Enjojo Lodge/Ishasha Jungle Lodge, you will arrive at lunchtime hours check-in at the Lodge and have lunch, then relax at the lodge, you will later go for an evening game drive to search for tree-climbing lions and other late grazers after you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 9
Game drives in Ishasha sector to search for tree climbing lions while encountering other wildlife.

On this day, after early morning breakfast, you will go for game drives in Ishasha plains for viewing Tree Climbing lions depending on your luck that day, you will as well have an opportunity of viewing other wildlife.

Day 10
En-route game drive and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National park mweya sector.

On this day, after an early morning breakfast, you will go for game drives in Ishasha plains for viewing Tree Climbing lions depending on your luck that day, you will as well have an opportunity of viewing other wildlife and you will later in the afternoon drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park for 2 nights at Elephant Hab Lodge/Buffalo Resort Lodge, the park is located along the Equator in South-Western Uganda.

Queen Elizabeth national park is Uganda’s most popular and diverse conservation area situated in the western rift valley floor with a variety of habitats including grassland, acacia woodland, forest and water which has enabled it to sustain a wide variety of wildlife among them the Big 4 animals which you will enjoy viewing while you stay here.

Day 11
Morning game drives for wildlife viewing and afternoon Boat cruise on Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth National park.

After an early morning breakfast, you will go for game drives in Kasenyi plains for wildlife viewing you will have a chance to see the big herds of Buffalos, Antelopes, Uganda Kobs, Warthogs among the wildlife and return to the lodge for lunch then later in the afternoon you will do a boat cruise on the Kazinga channel by far known as the highlight of all activities in this park.

This boat cruise offers a chance to spot over 400 species of water birds, many wild animals as they flock this channel for drinking water and above all, Kazinga channel has the highest concentration of hippos in the whole world

Day 12
Transfer to Kibale Forest National park via Amabere Caves for cultural experience of the history of the caves and a hike to the top of Nyakasura Hills.

On this day you will drive to Kibale Forest National Park for 2 nights at Chimpanzee Forest Guest House, the park is East of Rwenzori Mountain captured with tropical rain forests. The park is best known for its 13 species of primates which include Uganda’s largest population of Chimpanzees and other large mammals such as Elephants, Buffalos and giant forest hops which are however really seen.

Accommodation: Chimpanzee Forest Guest House/Kibale Home stay.

Day 13
Chimpanzee tracking experience and Bigodi Wetland walk.

After early morning breakfast, you will drive to the Park headquarters for registration and joining others for Chimpanzee trekking briefing about the dos and the don’ts during your Uganda Chimpanzee Trekking Tour. Once this is done, you will trek through the tropical rain forest of Kibale Forest National park with your ranger guides to find the Chimpanzees, which can take you from half an hour to three-quarters of the day.

During your trek, you will have a chance to encounter other wildlife including, various bird species and tree species which your guide which give you information about to make the trek enjoyable. This is indeed an extraordinary feeling being with these beautiful Creatures. After or before your chimpanzee trek, Bigodi wetland walk an initiative that was set up to support the cause of the local community and all the proceeds earned are reinvested back in the community

Day 14
Transfer to Murchison falls National Park.

On this day you will drive to Murchison National Park for 2 nights at Pakuba Safari Lodge/Murchison River Lodge, the park is located along the Longest River in the world River Nile. Murchison Falls National park is Uganda’s largest national park and is situated in Uganda’s largest conservation area situated is the Albertine rift valley floor with a variety of habitats including grassland, acacia woodland, forest and water which has enabled it sustain a wide variety of wildlife among them the Big 4 animals which you will enjoy viewing while your stay here.

Overnight: Pakuba Safari Lodge/Murchison River Lodge

Dive time: 6-7 hours

Day 15
Game drives and Boat Cruise to the bottom of the falls.

Murchison Falls Safari

After early morning breakfast, you will go for a morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise to the base of the falls and at the end of the boat cruise, you will hike to the top of the Falls to have a clear view of the Victoria Falls from above. You will have opportunities of sporting large herds of buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, hippos, Antelopes, warthogs, some birds and of lucky lions.

Return to the jetty for your afternoon boat to the base of the falls. Apart from visiting the falls, this boat will expose you to many water animals, water birds and others that flock this place to drink water. You will enjoy your stay while here.

Day 16
Drive back to Entebbe/Kampala to end the tour via Ziwa Rhino sanctuary for on foot Rhino tracking

After your breakfast, you drive to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for on foot Rhino tracking which will mark the end with an encounter of the Big Five animals, you will have lunch and then after be driven to Kampala or Entebbe for your post-tour accommodation or you may choose to fly out of Uganda today.

Meal Plan: Half Board.

Drive time: 4-5 hours’ drive.
