Overview

Our 4-Day Uganda Gorilla and Golden Monkey Habituation Tour is the ultimate short primate adventure, offering you a rare chance to encounter both Mountain Gorillas and Golden Monkeys in their natural homes—Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla National Parks—where you’ll enjoy an extended 4-hour experience with each species. Journey through Uganda’s vibrant central and southern regions, cross the Equator twice, and pass through traditional towns and welcoming local communities on your way to the misty, magical rainforests of Bwindi. Here, you’ll track and spend an unforgettable hour with the majestic mountain gorillas—the gentle giants of the forest. From Bwindi, continue to Mgahinga for an exciting Golden Monkey tracking experience in the bamboo-filled slopes of the Virunga Mountains.

This tour is available year-round, and based on permit availability, we’ll arrange your trek in Nkuringo or Rushaga. The itinerary can also be customized to match your budget and preferences, including accommodation style, meals, and transportation throughout your adventure.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Picked up from either a guest house/ Lodge in Entebbe or Kampala

You will be picked up by our safari guide from either a guest house/Lodge in Entebbe or Kampala if you arrive a day before or from Entebbe International Airport if you arrive in the very early morning hours, then drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in South Western Uganda, where you will spend two nights. This journey is about an 8-9-hour drive, but very enjoyable as you will be driving through various local communities and towns along the road; the drive also takes you through the beautiful cascading and rolling hills of the Kigezi region. You will also have an opportunity to cross the equator, where you will have an en-route stopover for photography and equator experience, then you will drive to Mbarara for en-route lunch and proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for overnight.

Accommodation: Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge or Trekkers Tavern Cottages.

Meal Plan: Full Board.

Drive time: 8-9 hours’ drive.

Day 2

Gorilla Habituation experience day and after transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

After an early morning breakfast, you will drive to the Park headquarters for registration and join others for a gorilla habituation briefing about the dos and don’ts during your Uganda Gorilla habituation Tour. Once this is done, you will trek through the tropical rain forest of Bwindi with your ranger guides to find the Gorillas, which can take you from half an hour to three-quarters of the day.

During your trek, you will have a chance to encounter other wildlife, including various bird species and tree species, for which your guide will give you information to make the trek enjoyable. This is indeed an extraordinary feeling being with these beautiful endangered Creatures. You will be awarded a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking and thus contributing to the conservation of mountain gorillas.

Day 3

Scenic drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

After an early morning breakfast, you will drive to the Park headquarters for registration and join others for a Golden monkey trekking briefing about the dos and don’ts during your Uganda Golden Monkey Habituation Tour. Once this is done, you will trek through the montane rain forest of Mgahinga Mountain with your ranger guides to find the Golden Monkeys, which can take you from half an hour to three-quarters of the day.

During your trek, you will have a chance to encounter other wildlife, including various bird species and tree species, which your guide which give you information about to make the trek enjoyable. After the trek, you will drive back to the lodge to relax and overnight.

Accommodation: Kisoro Traveler’s Inn or Lake Chahafi Resort.

Meal Plan: Full Board/with packed Lunch

Day 4

Drive back to Entebbe/Kampala to end the tour.

After your breakfast, you will be driven to Kampala or Entebbe for your post-tour accommodation, or you may choose to fly out of Uganda today. You will use the same Uganda Gorilla Trekking Tour route as when you came through.

Meal Plan: Half Board.

Drive time: 9-10 hours’ drive.
